Caraway Use licorice-flavored seeds as flavoring in various European dishes, breads, soups and sauerkraut. Feathery leaves can be used as garnishing. Biennial.
Cat Grass Cats will enjoy this delightfully tasty treat when grass is young (3-4” tall). Good in beds, containers, or indoors in pots.
Hyssop Beautiful ornamental shrub-like plant grows up to 2 feet with showy spikes of blue flowers that the bees love. The slightly bitter leaves are finely cut and used in soups, stews, and salads.
Lemon Grass Clumping plants bear dark green foliage with strong, lemony scent. Flavorful blades are used in teas and various dishes. Ideal for containers. Annual.
Parsley Italian Dark Green – Flat and deeply cut leaves on very tall, stocky stems. The aromatic flavor makes it the best parsley for drying. Great in omelets, sauces, and soups.
Sage Sage has been used as a folk remedy for centuries. Great with poultry and pork. Grows to 3 feet and prefers well-limed soil.
Salvia tiliafolia A native plant from southeastern Arizona to South America. The blue flowers and foliage makes attractive landscape plants for summer gardens. Gathered and used medicinally by the Tarahumara. I bought these seeds from Native Seeds Search in Tucson, Az. I would suggest growing in containers for added warmth or inside.
Tarragon Mexican Tarragon – Plant has a pleasant licorice scent and flavor. Excellent choice for spicy food as the flavor is stronger and more robust than French tarragon. Semi-woody shrub grows to 18-30 inches tall.
Thyme English Thyme – Indispensable in French cuisine. English Thyme is the most popular variety. Great for fish or meat dishes. Upright shrub with gray-green foliage and a true, robust, thyme flavor. Grows 12 inches tall. |
